Q: What is Kumon and what do you do?

A: Kumon is the world’s largest and oldest after-school education program, originating over 50 years ago in Japan as a math program. We offer two different subjects: Math and Reading. Students visit our center once or twice a week, and spend about twenty to thirty minutes per subject while at the center. The price is the same regardless if weekly visits are missed. Students also complete short daily assignments at home each day they do not come to the Center. We test each student to determine his starting point in the program. This starting point will be lower than the material the student is working on at school, to ensure that we start the student below any gaps in ability. The child then proceeds at his own pace into harder material. Kumon aims for mastery of each concept. Mastery is determined by not just accuracy, but independence and speed as well.
